Riba tera
The "Riba tera" (down to earth) band was created in 2000 with bassist Sherman van Heydoorn, who had also helped Konkie in a former band called Splash Pan, and drummer Gilbert Braaf. The trio performed all over The Netherlands and other European countries and, depending on the occasion, was sometimes transformed into a quartet.
The musicians:
Bassist Sherman van Heydoorn
Sherman studied at the Foundation Institution of Music in Curaçao. He began his career playing the bass steel drum in a band called Little Moonlighters, the ALM Steel band and Scorpio Steel Orchestra. He switched over to the acoustic and electric bass and was part, among others, of the Caribbean Band. Sherman lives in The Netherlands and plays frequently as a guest musician with groups like La Ritmica from Gerald Clarinda.
Drummer Gilbert Braaf
Gilbert studied at the Music Academy Curaçao and the Drummers Collective in New York. He attended workshops from Omar clay and Chick Corea and played with international artists like Percey Sledge, Maxim Saury, Hans Dulfer, Jan Akkerman and Herman Brood. Besides his performances he also teaches.
